Inscopix
Assessing neural network activity through in vivo calcium imaging
Our partnership with Inscopix marks a groundbreaking step towards a new generation approach to neuronal imaging, elevating translational research to a higher level.
Existing technologies for brain imaging in freely moving animals provide information either from one cell at a time, or give averaged, high-level information across whole brain regions. Inscopix takes a different approach – and gives direct, real-time neural circuitry data at single cell resolution from 100s to 1000s of neurons all at once. This is the critical intermediate scale of the neural circuit, where ensembles of neurons act in concert to control behaviour. Inscopix neural imaging technologies directly visualize the detailed function of the living, behaving brain–opening up a completely new, ultra-powerful, and highly relevant data type.
The Application
The Motac Neuroscience-Inscopix partnership combines cutting-edge neural network functional information in relevant animal models such as Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, multiple system atrophy, Huntington’s disease and more. The Inscopix technology readily captures powerful longitudinal information, from changes in individual cell and ensemble activity continuously over hours to define an acute drug-neural activity response, to imaging across weeks or months to follow progression of disease pathology or adaptive response to chronic pharmacology.
