Description

Existing technologies for brain imaging in freely moving animals provide information either from one cell at a time, or give averaged, high-level information across whole brain regions. Motac’s partner, Inscopix takes a different approach – and gives direct, real-time neural circuitry data at a single cell resolution from 100s to 1000s of neurons all at once.

This is the critical intermediate scale of the neurocircuit, where ensembles of neurons act in concert to control behaviour. Inscopix neural imaging technologies directly visualise the detailed function of the living, behaving brain – opening up a completely new, ultra-powerful, and highly relevant data type.

Method

Inscopix has enabled a new type of translational research, where models are built and defined by the individual and ensemble activity of neurons and the precise temporal relationship between neural circuit activity and behaviour.

For 25 years, Motac Neuroscience provides access to state-of-the-art basal ganglia-related disorders in rodents and non-human primates. The Motac Neuroscience-Inscopix- partnership combines frontier-breaking neural network information in relevant animal models of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Schizophrenia, Multiple System Atrophy, etc.

Endpoints

Our technology readily captures powerful longitudinal information in specific cell types, from changes in an individual cell and ensemble activity continuously over hours to define an acute drug-neural activity response, to imaging across weeks or months to follow progression of disease pathology or adaptive response to chronic pharmacology.
